Ornaments

A few months ago I found another scratchboard artist that cut down her boards to make ornaments. So, knowing that it could be done without completely destroying the inked surface I had to give it a try. My first few attempts with a utility knife were terrible. It took FOREVER to cut (30 minutes for one cut on a 6" x 6" board) and scratched up the surface. Not to mention my arm was dead afterwards. I can't believe that was a suggested way to do it. Next, I was going to try on the bansaw, but there were internal pieces that needed to be replaced on our saw. So my awesomely handy husband made a jig and we cut them down on our table saw which worked GREAT. I have been hard at work trying to pump out some ornaments between all of my commissions to get ready for the MOCA Holiday Craft Sale and Family Fest this Saturday (10-5). I have been mounting the boards on wood and trimming them out with balsa wood which is super easy to cut. They look just like mini framed scratchboards and I love them!
