Black & White

Scratchboard is a fine art medium where a thin layer of india ink (usually black) is scratched away to reveal the white clay layer underneath. I use various microblading tattoo needles, fiberglass brushes, and x-acto knives to etch into the inked surface. I incorporate various techniques of stippling, hatching, crosshatching and line work to create a variety of textures and values in each piece. On occasional work I will go back with thin layers of inks to create color portraits. These labor-intensive portraits involve 4-6 layers of inking and scratching between layers before complete. All my work is varnished with Krylon UV Archival Varnish.
